Quick Application

Applying press-on nails can be a quick and easy way to achieve a salon-quality manicure at home. Below is a step-by-step guide and video to ensure they last as long as possible and look flawless:

What You'll Need:

  1. Press-on nail set (ensure you have the right size and style for your nails).
  2. Nail file and buffer.
  3. Nail clippers (optional for shaping your natural nails).
  4. Cuticle pusher or orange stick.
  5. Rubbing alcohol prep pads.
  6. Nail glue or adhesive tabs (depending on the application method).
  7. Small scissors (optional, for trimming adhesive tabs).

Step-by-Step Application:

1. Prepare Your Natural Nails

  • Clean your nails: Wash your hands thoroughly to remove oils, dirt, and lotion residues.
  • Push back cuticles: Use a cuticle pusher to gently push back your cuticles for a clean application surface.
  • Trim and shape nails: Clip and/or file your nails to your desired length and shape, ensuring the edges are smooth.
  • Buff the nail surface: Lightly buff your nails to remove shine and create a surface the glue can adhere to. Be gentle to avoid over-thinning the nail.
  • Clean with rubbing alcohol: Wipe your nails with an alcohol prep pad to remove dust and oils.

2. Choose and Arrange the Press-On Nails

  • Match sizes: Compare the press-on nails to your natural nails and select the best fit for each. The press-on should fit edge-to-edge without overlapping the skin.
  • File edges (if needed): Use a nail file to gently adjust the edges of the press-ons for a better fit. *Note: filing the edges of the nail can compromise the seal of the polish to the nail making them more prone to chipping and/or peeling.*
  • Lay out the nails: Arrange them in the order you’ll apply them (thumb to pinky for both hands).

3. Prepare the Adhesive

  • For glue application:
    • Apply a thin, even layer of glue to your natural nail and a small drop to the base of the underside of the press-on nail.
  • For adhesive tabs:
    • Peel off the backing of the adhesive tab and press it onto your natural nail. Trim any overhanging edges for a perfect fit.

4. Apply the Press-On Nails

Tip: Start application with your non-dominant hand to make application easier for the dominant hand.

  • Align the press-on nail with your cuticle, positioning it slightly above the cuticle line (not on it).
  • Lay the nail on from cuticle to tip and then press down firmly in the center of the nail, then press on the sides to ensure full adhesion.
  • Hold each nail in place for 10–30 seconds to secure the bond. If using glue, you might need slightly more time, 30-60 seconds.

5. Finish and Maintain

  • Avoid water exposure for at least 1–2 hours after application to let the adhesive set properly.
  • Apply cuticle oil around your nails to keep the area hydrated.

Tips for Longevity

  • Avoid activities that can weaken the adhesive, like soaking your hands in hot water for prolonged periods.
  • Reapply glue or tabs if a nail starts to lift.
  • Use gloves when cleaning or doing dishes to protect your manicure.

By following these steps carefully, your press-on nails should last up to 1–2 weeks with glue or several days with adhesive tabs. Enjoy your fabulous, salon-like manicure!
